We went to our usual patisserie for breakfast pastries. We tried brioche au chocolat today and they were excellent!
We spent most of the day at the Musee d'Orsay. What an incredible building matched with equally incredible art! I found it distracting at first in the hall of sculpture as I wasn't sure where to look - the ceiling, the enormous gold clock or the stunning sculptures.
After wandering through the downstairs area - and accidentally discovering Pompon's stunning Ours blanc - we headed straight to the impressionist galleries on the 5th floor. Seeing Renoir's Bal du moulin de la galette in person was exciting as I remember the faded print of it which hung in the lounge when I was small. The view of Paris from the 5th floor was amazing too.
We had lunch at Café Campana which looks through one of the big glass clocks on the 5th floor and has a really modern design.
After lunch we looked through the Art Nouveau furniture displays before a brief tour of the paintings downstairs and one last walk through the hall of sculptures.
We had nothing else planned until the evening so we walked to the Louvre to view the pyramids then walked through the Jardin des Tuileries and continued up the Champs Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and then headed back to the hotel past the Eiffel Tower.
We met Katherine and James for dinner at a lovely French Restaurant just down the road from their apartment. It was great to catch up and to see where they're living for the next several months.
