Toledo

Yesterday we had a quiet day in Madrid looking in the shops. Ed bought a shirt and a huge book on Dali that weighs 6.5kg! Last night we went to a Basque style tapas bar for dinner. It was great; no tables - you just stand at the bar and all the tapas are on display so you can pick any that look good.

Today we went to Toledo for the day on the fast train. After having such an amazing day in Segovia we weren't quite as impressed with the town as it was very difficult to navigate through the winding streets. Today was also one of the hottest days we've had so far - still 36 degrees at 6pm! Toledo is a former capital of Spain and is also known for being where Christians, Jews and Muslims all lived in harmony. You can see the influence of all three groups through the architecture of the town.
Here is the amazing Toledo train station where we arrived.

We chose to walk up the steps to the town to enjoy the amazing views. There are several public escalators for those not feeling quite as fit.

Our highlight of the day was visiting the town's museum which had an amazing range of paintings, artefacts and ceramics all housed in a stunning building. Plus it was free to enter!

We also visited the synagogue and museum in the former Jewish quarter of the town.

We wandered around for ages trying to find the Mosque but the winding streets made it very difficult so we eventually gave up. It was a great chance to see lots of the other amazing buildings though!

The train back to Madrid arrived around 8pm so we decided to have dinner just along from our hotel. It's our last night in Madrid tonight; tomorrow we go on to Seville.
